2026 Montreal Shooting Attack on Aylo Headquarters

On June 22, 2026, a violent shooting and subsequent shootout occurred in the Côte-des-Neiges neighborhood of Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The attack targeted the headquarters of Aylo, a multinational conglomerate known for its involvement in internet pornography and the operation of the video-sharing site Pornhub.

The Incident

The event began at 11:35 a.m. EDT when the Montreal City Police Service (SPVM) received reports of a gunman at the Hilton Garden Inn Montreal Midtown. The perpetrator was observed shooting from a hotel window toward the sixth floor of the building across the street, where Aylo employees were working.

Upon the arrival of police officers, a shootout ensued at street level. Constable Mohamed Lamine Benredouane and a female officer were the first to respond; Benredouane was fatally wounded, and the female officer was critically injured. During the chaos, a civilian, Michel Mizrahi, was also fatally shot. The gunman was eventually neutralized and killed by Constable Xavier Gaumond.

Victims and Casualties

The shooting resulted in three deaths and multiple injuries:

• Constable Mohamed Lamine Benredouane: A 34-year-old officer who joined the SPVM in 2021. His death marked the first line-of-duty killing of an SPVM officer in 24 years.
• Michel Mizrahi: A 68-year-old Israeli citizen and long-term Montreal resident.
• Seth Hatfield: The 25-year-old perpetrator.

Additionally, one police officer remained in critical condition and another civilian sustained minor injuries.

The Perpetrator and Motive

The shooter was identified as Seth Scott Hatfield, a 25-year-old philosophy student from Lethbridge, Alberta. Following the incident, authorities discovered a 104-page manifesto in his hotel room that linked him to incel subculture.

In his writings, Hatfield expressed a deep hatred for the pornography industry, claiming it was responsible for the suffering of men. He called for armed revolution to destroy liberalism and capitalism, blending Marxist ideology with incel beliefs. His targets included:

• Pornography industry conventions.
• Prominent pornographic actors and actresses.
• Pickup artists and plastic surgeons.
• Business leaders, politicians, Zionists, and cryptocurrency leaders.

Official Reactions

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and Quebec Premier Christine Frechette both issued statements of condolence. Montreal Mayor Soraya Martinez Ferrada expressed concern over gun violence and the toxic nature of online discourse, ordering city flags to be flown at half-mast. Aylo also released a statement expressing gratitude to first responders for protecting their staff.
