American Ninja Warrior Season 15 Highlights and Results

The fifteenth season of American Ninja Warrior premiered on June 5, 2023, on NBC. As a spin-off of the Japanese reality series Sasuke, the show continues to push athletes to their physical and mental limits. This season was hosted by the dynamic trio of Matt Iseman, Akbar Gbaja-Biamila, and Zuri Hall.

Location and Format Changes

Season 15 saw a shift in its filming locations. Both the Qualifying and Semifinals rounds were held entirely in Universal City, Los Angeles. However, the National Finals returned to its traditional high-stakes setting in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Historic Achievements and Total Victory

This season was one for the history books, setting a new record with eight competitors advancing to Stage 4. Most notably, the season crowned its third grand prize winner, Vance Walker. Walker achieved "Total Victory," becoming the fifth ninja in the show's history to do so. His victory was particularly impressive given his background as a two-time winner of American Ninja Warrior Junior.

In a thrilling conclusion, Daniel Gil also achieved total victory during the same season, though he completed the final rope climb slower than Walker.

Course Obstacles and Innovations

Qualifying Round

The qualifying course began with the Pole Vault and concluded with the Warped Wall. A significant challenge this season was the Mega Wall, which was increased to 18.5 feet. To earn an attempt at the Mega Wall, contestants had to finish the course in under 1 minute and 20 seconds. Those who successfully scaled it received an immediate reward of $10,000.

Another new addition was "The Runoffs," which replaced the Power Tower. This segment featured four obstacles where the lowest-ranking male and female contestants competed side-by-side for the final spots in the semifinals.

Semifinals and Safety Pass

The semifinals utilized the Runoffs course, adding the Slingshot and Rope Climb as final obstacles. The two fastest finishers competed in a Safety Pass race. The winner of this race earned a Safety Pass, granting them a do-over of Stage 1 in the National Finals if they were to fail.

Qualifying Highlights

The qualifying rounds took place over seven nights at Universal Studios Hollywood. A major rule change this season was the implementation of separate leaderboards for men and women. The top 11 men and top 3 women advanced immediately, while the next two from each group fought for the remaining spots in the Runoffs.

• Course 1: Featured the debut of the Pole Vault and Lasso Launch. Brian Kretsch, a veteran of every season, faced a challenging moment on the Domino Effect obstacle.
• Course 2: Kai Beckstrand and Jera Boyd became the first to conquer the taller Mega Wall.
• Course 3: Daniel Gil returned to the competition, taking the top time for the men. Additionally, Gary Weiland made history as the first amputee to advance to the semifinals.
• Course 4: Featured the return of Jessie Graff and the debut of her 71-year-old mother, Ginny MacColl.
