VCY America Traditional Christian Radio and TV Network

VCY America, Inc. is a traditional, evangelical, conservative Christian ministry headquartered in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The organization operates a wide-reaching network of broadcast outlets focused on Christian talk, teaching, and traditional Christian music, maintaining a strict adherence to conservative theological and musical standards.

History and Evolution

The ministry began as "Milwaukee Youth For Christ" and later evolved into "Greater Milwaukee Youth For Christ." In 1973, the organization separated from the national Youth For Christ (YFC) organization, subsequently becoming the Wisconsin Voice of Christian Youth (WVCY). It operated under this name until 1995, when it adopted its current name, VCY America. The flagship stations in Milwaukee, WVCY-FM and WVCY-TV, still carry call signs that reference the ministry's original identity.

The VCY America Radio Network

VCY America manages an extensive radio network consisting of 41 owned-and-operated stations across 19 states, including Arizona, California, Colorado, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nevada, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, South Dakota, Texas, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. The network is further bolstered by 26 low-power FM translators and numerous affiliate stations.

The network provides specialized programming such as Crosstalk, Worldview Weekend, and Music 'til Dawn to stations nationwide via satellite. To support its operations, VCY America also operates a Christian bookstore in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, which serves as both a physical retail location and an online store shipping throughout the United States.

Strategic Expansion

VCY America has aggressively expanded its footprint, particularly in the West and Northeast. After a legal battle over bankruptcy actions involving stations in the San Francisco Bay Area, Las Vegas, and the Coachella Valley, VCY America successfully acquired KFRH, KRCK-FM, and two translators in the Palm Springs area in October 2023. KFRH (now KVPH) began airing VCY programming in March 2024.

In early 2023, the ministry expanded to the East Coast by purchasing WFAS-FM in the New York City area from Cumulus Media, renaming it WVBN. This was followed by the acquisition of WJBR-FM in Wilmington, Delaware, from Beasley Broadcast Group in August 2023, which brought their programming into the Philadelphia market via WVCW.

The network's programming is characterized by a commitment to traditional Christian content. Featured programs include:

Notably, VCY America strictly avoids Contemporary Christian Music (CCM), removing any program that incorporates such music, even as theme songs, to maintain a traditional sound.

Television Broadcasting

The ministry owns WVCY-TV (Channel 30) in Milwaukee. While it holds a commercial license, the station is entirely viewer-supported. Following the FCC's spectrum repack auction, the station vacated its independent frequency, earning $76.3 million, which has been reinvested into the expansion of the radio network. WVCY-TV currently operates under a channel share agreement with WITI (a Fox affiliate). The network has also expanded its television reach into the Wausau and La Crosse markets in Wisconsin.

Additional Ministries and Leadership

Beyond broadcasting, VCY America operates Trail Ridge Camp, a summer camp located near Hillsboro, Wisconsin. The ministry is currently led by Executive Director Jim Schneider, following the leadership of the late Vic Eliason, who was an ordained minister and recipient of an honorary doctorate from Bob Jones University.
