West Virginia University College of Creative Arts and Media

The West Virginia University College of Creative Arts and Media (also known as WVU CCAM) is a prominent academic institution located in Morgantown, West Virginia. It serves as a hub for creative expression and professional training in media and the arts.

History of the College

Isaac Reed School of Journalism (1939 - 2014)

The foundation of the media wing of the college was laid by Dr. Perley Isaac Reed, who arrived at West Virginia University in 1920. Initially teaching English and Journalism, Dr. Reed expanded the curriculum to include journalism history, editing, advertisement writing, and trade and industrial journalism.

Through his efforts and collaboration with the West Virginia State Newspaper Council, Journalism became a department in 1927 and eventually a school in 1939. For years, the school operated out of rooms in Woodburn Hall before moving into Martin Hall in 1953.

College of Creative Arts (1969 - 2024)

Founded in 1969, the College of Creative Arts was established to house the schools of theatre and dance, art and design, and music.

Reed College of Media (2014 - 2024)

On February 21, 2014, the Perley Isaac Reed School of Journalism officially transitioned to the Reed College of Media on July 1, 2014.

College of Creative Arts and Media (2024 - Present)

In 2024, West Virginia University merged the Reed College of Media and the College of Creative Arts to form the current College of Creative Arts and Media.

• Woodburn Hall: An education building used by the school of Media and Communications.
